Our primary goal is to assist students to become highly skilled technicians who are fully committed to carrying out safety critical testing in a professional and responsible manner at all times.
History of the School
SANDE was founded in 1981 by Eric Guest. We now have 2 fully qualified permanent instructors, and several part-time instructors, who present scheduled courses at our premises in Boksburg, as well as away courses both nationally and internationally.
The founder, Eric Guest, presented several papers on Non Destructive Examination – to the First African Conference on Non Destructive Examination in Nairobi in June, 1994 and to the Fall Conference of the American Society of Non Destructive Testing (ASNT) in Seattle in October, 1996. He held ASNT/ACCP/EN 473/ISO Level 3 certificates until mid 2008. Mr Guest retired after 52 years in NDT. Mr Guest compiled and presented courses in Ultrasonic Examination, Radiography, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Liquid Penetrant Inspection and Eddy Current Inspection. He also qualified as a commercial pilot in 1982. He sadly passed away in 2016.
Our General Manager
Elaine Macdonald has been managing the school for 12 years. She has an MA, an AICB (SA) and is also the Chairperson of ASNT SA. She is currently on the committee of TETA representing the SA Aerospace industry.
Between them SANDE’s instructors have more than 50 years NDT experience in Aerospace and General Industry and hold SNT-TC-1A Level II’s in multi-disciplines, SAQCC ISO 9712 and ASNT Level III.
SANDE presently offers Non Destructive testing training in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Visual Inspection (VT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), Radiography (RT), Radiation Safety and Ultrasonics (UT).
SANDE is responsible for maintaining the Southern Africa Section of ASNT and are also Corporate members of ASNT and SAINT (The South African Institute for Non Destructive Testing).
SANDE is accredited by SA Civil Aviation and TETA as an NDE Training Organisation offering critical skills and also has ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. In addition SANDE has SASOL Synthetic Fuels and DENEL approval. SANDE presently educates up to 2000 students a year to ASNT recommended practice SNT-TC-1A, Levels 1 & II in MT, PT, UT, VT, RT & ET.
SANDE became an ATB to SAIW in August 2017 and offers SAQCC ISO 9712 examinations throughout the year at their premises.
AWS CWI & ACCP courses and examinations are also presented regularly by QCCO, Egypt at SANDE.
