Ultrasonic Examination 1
This method uses mechanical sound energy pulses that pass into the material. Flaws reflect the energy back as echoes, which are then captured and displayed as electronic images on a monitor.
Course Content
- Physical properties of sound energy in the ultrasonic range, generation of ultrasound (various types of transducers)
- Piezo-electric effect
- Propagation of sound energy through materials, types of wave forms and velocities in materials.
- Ultrasonic test methods, pulse echo, through transmission, immersion testing.
- Compression, angle, surface beam testing. Beam profiles, attenuation of energy, acoustic impedance.
- Energy conversion at interfaces, reflection, refraction, mode conversion.
- Calibration standards.
- Practical exercises, calibration and inspection.
- Evaluation of reflectors.
- Reporting and procedures.
- End-of-course examinations.
Duration
15 DAYS
What’s Included:
- Course Material/Notes
- Theory Exam
- Practical Exam
- Use of equipment/ consumables
Requirements
Grade 12 Certificate
